Plant size: The plant you receive will be anywhere from 2″-5″ tall. This is an established plant with roots, stems and leaves, grown from a cutting of a very healthy and young mother American Elderberry Tree (which produces a ton of fruit regularly). Please refer to pictures in gallery for an idea of the type of plant you MAY receive. Again, these are just examples of plant styles you may receive.
We will always choose the healthiest looking cutting to send first, and then we’ll pick the largest one. We will not simply send you a random plant, or a tall plant just because it’s tall. Healthy first, size second. All plants are grown 100% organically with absolutely no pesticides. We occasionally spray NEEM oil, which is a safe, natural plant oil that pests don’t like. Just as safe as spraying peppermint oil around your garden.
The American elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) is a versatile and valuable shrub native to North America. It is prized for its delicious and nutritious fruit, which can be used to make jams, jellies, pies, syrups, and other culinary delights. Elderberries are also known for their medicinal properties, and have been used for centuries to boost the immune system and treat a variety of ailments. It is important to properly cook the seeds/fruit prior to consuming. Raw elderberries are NOT edible, and must be properly cooked first.
We ship all orders within 24 hours. If you order on a Friday or Saturday we may (depending upon your location) hold your order until Monday, to ensure minimal travel time to maintain a strong and healthy plant. Does NOT include pot. Comes in a baggie with soil, professionally prepared, ready to be planted. Best to start in small containers, and upgrade to larger ones as needed. This will ensure faster growth.
All of our plants are grown in sunny Southern California, near the foothills of Mt. Baldy, where they enjoy a light ocean breeze in a comfortable Mediterranean climate.
